There Were No Prophylactic Stations When I Served

I wished I could find this old Army Training film on YouTube or Joost. But I'll have to settle for watching it at the Smoking Gun.

The film, "Easy to Get", is a twenty minute film on venereal disease prevention for soldiers. It gets pretty graphic at times, like the close-up of the man with syphilis who "washed his rod with whiskey."

It's also racist as hell. All the men who catch VD in this video are black. The moral of the film is that all women are filthy and diseased on the inside, and all black men like to sleep with them. This training film is probably the "Birth of a Nation" of Army training films.

For those of you who care, I'll be on WHPK radio (that's the University of Chicago's radio station, 88.5 FM) this afternoon from 2-4 p.m. as the featured guest on Mario's "News from the Service Entrance" program. I'll be hipping the hosts to some good wings, spinning tunes with a food and/or drink-related theme, and warding off e-mails from angry readers and listeners.

Oh,. I'll also be promoting Chicagoist and the anniversary party this evening we're holding at Subterranean. The range of "HPK is limited, so you can listen to their new internet stream here.
